Break-away couplings are safety components used to prevent one of the major risks in the LPG loading process: the application of an undesirable and disproportionate tensile load on the hose.

This can happen, for example, if a tanker or wagon leaves too quickly, or if a ship drifts. Too high a tensile load can cause mechanical damage or destroy the connection points and the charging circuit. This type of incident can cause an uncontrolled leak of LPG during loading, and therefore a risk for people and the environment.
